Provision of Molecular Biology Expertise
Invitation to Tender
The Marine Institute, a semi-State body, wishes to invite tenders for the supply of Molecular Biology Expertise. The Marine Institute (through duties carried out by the Fish Health Unit), is the National Reference Laboratory (NRL) for diseases of fish, molluscs and crustaceans and the Competent Authority for the implementation of the Health of Aquaculture Animals and Products Regulations (2008) (as amended). As a consequence of the Marine Institute’s status as National Reference Laboratory, the Institute wishes to ensure access to the requisite molecular skills to ensure detection and identification of important diseases of fish and shellfish, such as those listed in EU Council Directive 2006/88/EC and associated secondary legislation, as well as pathogens and viruses in shellfish.
The Marine Institute already employs a number of staff who work in the area of molecular biology, using up- to- date equipment and dedicated facilities. The purpose of this tender is to source trouble shooting and advanced technical skills which will assist the existing team in consolidating the methods which have already been developed; to develop and validate new methods; and to ensure these methods are fit for purpose and accredited to EN 17025 standards
At present a requirement exists for the supply of Molecular Biology expertise in a single supplier framework contract for a period of no more than 24 months.
