Be sure to follow us*** Description: A PhD researcher is sought for a 3 year EPA-funded project to provide further insight into the disposal of on-site wastewater within areas of low permeability subsoils. The objectives are to carry out field trials to assess the chemical and microbiological pollutant loads into rivers from such on-site systems in low permeability subsoils. The researcher will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team which will also be aiming to evaluate the impact of on-site systems on water quality in private wells, as well as trying to identify an appropriate fingerprinting technique in order to track such on-site effluent contamination in both surface and groundwater. Selected Requirements: An outstanding student with an interest in both hydrology as well as pollutant attenuation mechanisms in both the vadose zone and groundwater environment is required. Applicants should have a strong motivation and demonstrate ability in both field work and numerical modelling areas of research. In addition, the successful applicant will be required to liaise with the EPA, Local Authorities and landowners and will need good communication skills. Applicants should preferably possess a first class honours degree in Engineering/Science or other relevant discipline. NB: Closing date 26th April 2013.
