Description:
The Irish Dairy Board (IDB), as a major provider of quality food products, takes seriously its responsibility towards the environment. It is also committed to becoming a recognised leader in the international dairy industry by building on inherent sustainability attributes of Irish dairying and IDB’s products and brands. The Sustainability Officer, a member of the Corporate Affairs Team is responsible, in collaboration with the Secretary/Director of Administration, for the continuous development of IDB’s sustainability policy and for coordinating group-wide initiatives. The Sustainability Officer is also responsible for promoting sustainability in Irish dairying and for coordinating IDB’s leadership role in on-going sustainability initiatives at a national level.

Key duties to include:
  • To develop and oversee the implementation of the Irish Dairy Board’s sustainability policy within IDB Co-op and on a group wide basis.
  • To report on the IDB’s sustainability initiatives in the Annual Report and to be responsible for all associated website and Social Media activities, in conjunction with the Communications Manager.
  • To input and assist IDB’s marketing teams with the sustainability positioning of IDB’s brands and products and related promotional material.
  • To respond to customer and consumer queries and questionnaires on IDB’s sustainability and CSR policies.
  • To monitor International, European and national sustainability initiatives and policies and ensure IDB involvement, input and representation where appropriate.
  • To work collaboratively with all stakeholders to promote the importance of sustainability at farm level for the image of Irish dairying and to establish tools to facilitate the measurement and monitoring of emissions on-farm and in dairy manufacturing.
  • To work with our members to ensure a common sustainability positioning for our products.
Requirements:

Essential:
  • a third level qualification in a relevant field
  • at least two years' relevant professional experience or an appropriate post graduate qualification
  • an understanding of the importance of sustainability as it relates to a sales and marketing company and an agri-food brand
  • strong numeracy skills
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • excellent IT skills, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • good people skills and confident manner
Desirable:
  • experience in the implementation of environmental or sustainability policies, either at corporate level or in a business advisory capacity
  • knowledge of Irish agriculture and the dairy industry in particular, along with an understanding of the environmental or sustainability issues pertaining to Irish dairying at farm, processing and market level
  • relevant report writing experience
